- Recruit and enroll children for the Head Start program. Maintain an active program wide waiting list.
- Participate on the enrollment committee on a rotating appointment.
- Build a partnership with parents to establish mutual trust and identify family goals.
- Assist parents in developing and implementing individualized family partnership agreements that describe family goals, responsibilities, timetables and strategies for achieving them. Monitor progress in achieving these goals.
- Assist families in identifying and securing access to continuing education, training and employment opportunities.
- Refer children and families to local agencies who provide literacy opportunities. Assist in the provision of literacy activities and parent education activities.
- Provide information to families concerning community resources and how to use them.
- Follow up with families to determine whether the quality and timeliness of service met the family’s needs and expectations.
- Maintain active communication with outside agencies. Serve on advisory committee when invited, and encourage other community agencies to plan and implement activities consistent with parents needs and interest and with the cultural and linguistic diversity of families.
- Report suspected child abuse, neglect, or imminent risk to the appropriate Children and Youth agency. The Family Service Worker will follow the CCDP Head Start reporting procedures.
- Enter enrollment applications on the computer. Maintain current listing of enrolled children by updating changes, such as home address, telephone numbers, and emergency contacts.
- Attend teamings and weekly meetings with the teaching staff to assess current family needs, child’s attendance, and changes in the child/family status.
- Maintain confidentiality according to Head Start guidelines.
- Keep up-to-date and accurate records regarding referrals, telephone contacts, weekly teacher meeting minutes and parent meeting minutes.
- Attend and participate in Head Start sponsored trainings at the local, regional and state level including overnight travel.
- Work in conjunction with all service areas to provide information to families.
- Assist in planning and carrying out monthly parent meetings that cover information specified within the Head Start Performance Standards, as well as the expressed interests and needs of the parents.
- Assist parents in becoming advocates for their children as they transition into and out of Head Start.
- Assist the program in managing Holiday gifts for families.
- Be responsible for the assigned computer hardware and software. Perform regular maintenance functions and other duties as outlined in the agency’s written procedure on computer systems.
- Complete other duties as deemed necessary by the Head Start Director or managerial staff in order to provide an efficient, effective operation of the Head Start Program.

- To be an integral part of the classroom team, providing behavioral support to enhance each individual child’s social emotional growth.
- Provide behavioral strategies to help strengthen the children’s social emotional skills and improve their ability to learn and be successful in the classroom and beyond.

- Assist children in learning appropriate social emotional skills by planning Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) activities to intentionally teach children social emotional skills, as well as using naturally occurring situations in the classroom as teaching moments.
- Implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) strategies with children exhibiting challenging behaviors in the classroom using one-on-one support on an as needed basis.
- Work closely with the classroom staff as part of the team to help develop and implement individual behavior plans.
- Meet with the classroom staff on a weekly basis to discuss children’s progress and how to best meet their needs in the classroom.
- Attend all PBIS staff meetings and monthly teamings as needed.
- Keep confidential any matters pertaining to a child or family involved with Head Start.
- Be punctual and dependable in attendance.
- Help maintain current inventory of PBIS materials and equipment.
- Be an advocate for Head Start in the community.
- Maintain frequent communications with the Mental Health Manager.
- Attend trainings and staff meetings provided by Head Start.

Assistant Group Supervisor/Assistant Teacher - Bloomsburg Children's Center - Two full-year positions available
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week/52 weeks per year 9:30 am- 5:30 pm M-F

SPECIFIC DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
A high school diploma or a GED certificate and 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or the human services field; OR a high school diploma or a GED certificate, 15 credit hours from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and one year of experience with children. OR a high school diploma or a general educational development certificate and two years experience working with children.
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week/52 weeks per year 9:30 am- 5:30 pm M-F
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
- Carry out the daily activities under the guidance and supervision of the group supervisor.
- Be responsible for the planning and executing of a program for children in-line with the philosophy of the program and the highest goals for early childhood education.
- In accordance with the philosophy of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), develop and maintain positive working relationships with all staff in the agency and demonstrate a positive attitude towards all clients and other persons with whom you come in contact during the course of your job.

SPECIFIC DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
- Learn, understand and cooperate with the philosophy and curriculum of the program.
- In conjunction with the Group Supervisor, plan and prepare developmentally appropriate activities to enhance the individual development of each child.
- Be a positive model for aides, work study students, substitutes, volunteers and others working with the children.
- Maintain records or reports that are necessary for the children or the program. This includes, but not limited to, lesson plans, attendance sheets, developmental assessments, take home notes for parents, accident reports, anecodotals, etc. Give reports to the appropriate person for filing.
- Complete developmental assessments three times a year for each child.
- Hold parent/teacher conferences three times a year to review developmental assessments and when requested by parent or when need arises.
- Maintain daily open communication with parents (newsletters, parent bulletin board, take home papers, phone calls).
- Participate in parent functions. Encourage parent involvement in parent activities such as Parent’s Night Out, Valentine Tea, Summer Social, and the Parent Breakfast, etc.
- In the absence of the Group Supervisor, assume responsibility for the daily operation of the classroom.
- Be responsible for administering medication, insuring that permission slips for medication and medication logs are properly completed and given to the appropriate person for filing.
- Be responsible for notifying parents when a child is ill and arrange with the parent a suitable pick up time.
- Maintain up-to-date first aid, Emergency Plan training, CPR certification, fire training, and water safety training as needed.
- Evaluate the aides directly under his/her supervision according to the procedures as outlined in the Personnel Handbook.
- Supervise closely and interact with children in all activity areas, inside and outside, with an appropriate sense of accountability. Assist children to be self- reliant and to relate to others.
- Keep in mind the individual development of each child; work toward social, nutritional, physical, emotional and cognitive goals appropriate to each individual child’s needs.
- Supervise and help direct the activities of aides, substitutes, volunteers, work study students, and others working with children.
- Establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment. Keep materials in good repair and stored in a safe orderly fashion.
- Be familiar with licensing regulations as specified by DPW, and be responsible for the program’s compliance of these and/or bring to the Child Care Coordinator’s attention.
- Attend meetings with Group Supervisor to bring forward issues, concerns, ideas, and problems.
- Attend 24 hours of training annually and make use of appropriate training as required, which may be occasional night or weekend training.
- Be familiar with NAEYC regulations and be responsible for the program’s compliance of these regulations.
- Be familiar with STARS regulations and be responsible for the program’s compliance of these regulations.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures.
- Participate in monthly staff meetings.
- Maintain an up-to-date Professional Development Record (PDR).
- Maintain daily health routines with the children, including brushing teeth and hand washing.
- Participate in two professional developmental activities annually.
- Be responsible for the assigned computer hardware and software. Perform regular maintenance functions and other duties as outlined in the agency’s written procedure on computer systems.
- Carry out any additional duties as assigned by the Group Supervisor and/or child Care Coordinator for the efficient operation of the child care program.
