HEAD START
Head Start's education program is designed to meet each child's individual needs. Students receive individualized education through the Creative curriculum. Head Start provides children with activities that help them grow intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically. Children are encouraged to socialize with others, solve problems, express their feelings, and develop self-confidence. |
PARENT - TEACHER CONFERENCESFormal Parent - Teacher Conferences are scheduled within the Head Start year and are an important part of the education program. They enable the staff and parent to work as partners for the betterment of the child and family. The meetings are scheduled at a mutually convenient time for parents and staff.
|
HOME VISIT POLICYIt is Head Start's philosophy to educate the total child. This requires the involvement of the family in the home setting and at the center. Home visits help the parents and staff work as partners and enhance dignity and self-worth within the child. Parents are expected to be available during their scheduled Home Visit time.

CENTER-BASED OPTION
|
Children who are enrolled in a Center Based Program will receive five days in the classroom for 5 or 6 hours each day depending on classroom setup. Families will receive 2 home visits during the year and 2-hour long Parent/Teacher conferences. There will be 3 to 4 Cluster Visits in which parents are invited to the center for special activities.
Attendance is not only helpful for children to build friendships and maintain a routine, but also mandatory. Your child's teacher is required to contact you if your child has missed 3 consecutive days or attends on an irregular basis. This will be followed up by a call or visit from your Family Service Worker who will offer assistance to help your child get to the center on a regular basis. |
HOME-BASED OPTION
|
Your child will receive a minimum of 32 Home Visits per year. Each visit will be 1.5 hours per visit, unless a sibling is also enrolled, in which case the Home Visit will be 2 hours.
Children enrolled in a Home Based Program in Bloomsburg and Berwick will receive a minimum of 18 socialization days throughout the year. Each socialization day will be 2 hours. Socialization days in Berwick and Bloomsburg will be on Friday. Calendars of socialization days will be given to you at orientation. |
COMBINATION OPTION
|
Children enrolled in the combination option will receive two days of classroom experience weekly for 6 hours each day. Your child will attend center on Tuesday and Wednesday, or Thursday and Friday (schedule to be determined). We encourage regular attendance as it helps your child build friendships with other children.
Your child will receive a minimum of 16 Home Visits during the year. Each visit will be 1.5 hours, unless a sibling is also enrolled, in which case the Home Visit would be 2 hours. Home Visits are scheduled at a mutually convenient time. |
