SPECIFIC DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
- Understand and work to achieve the goals, philosophy, and objectives of Head Start and Childcare.
- Assist children in learning appropriate social emotional skills by planning Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) activities to intentionally teach children social emotional skills, as well as using naturally occurring situations in the classroom as teaching moments.
- Implement Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) strategies with children exhibiting challenging behaviors in the classroom using one-on-one support on an as needed basis.
- Work closely with the classroom staff as part of the team to help develop and implement individual behavior plans.
- Meet with the classroom staff on a weekly basis to discuss children’s progress and how to best meet their needs in the classroom.
- Attend all PBIS staff meetings and monthly teamings as needed.
- Keep confidential any matters pertaining to a child or family involved with Head Start.
- Be punctual and dependable in attendance.
- Help maintain current inventory of PBIS materials and equipment.
- Be an advocate for Head Start in the community.
- Maintain frequent communications with the Mental Health Manager.
- Attend trainings and staff meetings provided by Head Start.

SPECIFIC DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
- Learn, understand and cooperate with the philosophy and curriculum of the program.
- In conjunction with the Group Supervisor, plan and prepare developmentally appropriate activities to enhance the individual development of each child.
- Be a positive model for aides, work study students, substitutes, volunteers and others working with the children.
- Maintain records or reports that are necessary for the children or the program. This includes, but not limited to, lesson plans, attendance sheets, developmental assessments, take home notes for parents, accident reports, anecodotals, etc. Give reports to the appropriate person for filing.
- Complete developmental assessments three times a year for each child.
- Hold parent/teacher conferences three times a year to review developmental assessments and when requested by parent or when need arises.
- Maintain daily open communication with parents (newsletters, parent bulletin board, take home papers, phone calls).
- Participate in parent functions. Encourage parent involvement in parent activities such as Parent’s Night Out, Valentine Tea, Summer Social, and the Parent Breakfast, etc.
- In the absence of the Group Supervisor, assume responsibility for the daily operation of the classroom.
- Be responsible for administering medication, insuring that permission slips for medication and medication logs are properly completed and given to the appropriate person for filing.
- Be responsible for notifying parents when a child is ill and arrange with the parent a suitable pick up time.
- Maintain up-to-date first aid, Emergency Plan training, CPR certification, fire training, and water safety training as needed.
- Evaluate the aides directly under his/her supervision according to the procedures as outlined in the Personnel Handbook.
- Supervise closely and interact with children in all activity areas, inside and outside, with an appropriate sense of accountability. Assist children to be self- reliant and to relate to others.
- Keep in mind the individual development of each child; work toward social, nutritional, physical, emotional and cognitive goals appropriate to each individual child’s needs.
- Supervise and help direct the activities of aides, substitutes, volunteers, work study students, and others working with children.
- Establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment. Keep materials in good repair and stored in a safe orderly fashion.
- Be familiar with licensing regulations as specified by DPW, and be responsible for the program’s compliance of these and/or bring to the Child Care Coordinator’s attention.
- Attend meetings with Group Supervisor to bring forward issues, concerns, ideas, and problems.
- Attend 24 hours of training annually and make use of appropriate training as required, which may be occasional night or weekend training.
- Be familiar with NAEYC regulations and be responsible for the program’s compliance of these regulations.
- Be familiar with STARS regulations and be responsible for the program’s compliance of these regulations.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures.
- Participate in monthly staff meetings.
- Maintain an up-to-date Professional Development Record (PDR).

- Meet with parents to discuss the results of developmental screenings and assessments, and as other concerns arise.
- Be a positive model for subordinates and others working with children.
- Maintain records or reports that are necessary for the children or the program. This includes, but is not limited to, lesson plans, attendance sheets, developmental assessments, developmental screenings, take home notes for parents, accident reports, newsletters, incident reports, anecdotals, etc. Give reports to appropriate person for filing.

- Participate in parent functions.
- In the absence of the Child Care Coordinator, bring questions and concerns to Administrator’s attention as needed. Rearrange staff when necessary to meet ratio.
- Maintain up-to-date clearances, NSOR, and health physical.
- Instruct, lead, and supervise subordinates. Evaluate the assistants and classroom aides directly under your supervision.
- Supervise children closely. Count the number of children frequently and know how many children are in your group and which children you are responsible for at all times.
- Interact with children in all activities to further learning experiences and to meet individual goals.
- Establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment. Keep materials in good repair and stored in a safe orderly fashion. Assume the responsibility for the classroom’s appearance and share housekeeping chores with other staff members.
- Be familiar with licensing regulations as specified by DHS. Be familiar with STARS and NAEYC regulations and be responsible for the program’s compliance of these regulations.
